Exclusive: 5 Proven Steps to Elevate Your Service Website This Weekend

Your website should be more than a placeholder—it should be a tool that attracts clients, builds trust, and drives sales. If your website isn’t producing active client interest, and you aren’t hearing from anyone there, you have a problem.

If your current website isn’t generating business, don’t worry. You’re not alone!

Many service providers, especially neurodivergent and queer entrepreneurs, feel stuck when it comes to improving their websites. Who wants to spend their precious hyperfocus hours on learning the one million things you need to know to create a website designed to sell, get attention, and bring in new clients?

I didn’t for years and paid the price in my coaching business. Honestly, I don’t even want to guess how much money I lost not learning about this or hiring expert help sooner.

The good news? You don’t need weeks (or a big budget) to make meaningful changes. These 5 proven steps can help you transform your site in just one weekend.

Let’s dive in and give your website the glow-up it deserves! Your clients love you, and more of them deserve to find you and get the help you offer. I promise these tweaks will be worth making! Even if the idea of updating your website feels daunting!

Step 1: Write a Headline That Hooks

Your headline is the first thing visitors see, and it’s your opportunity to make a strong first impression.

A clear, benefit-driven headline helps visitors immediately understand what you offer and why it matters to them. Visitors need to know what problem you solve, and how they can work with you within 5 seconds to remain interested and curious about the rest of your site.

How to Fix It This Weekend:

  • Now, I know this isn’t ground breaking, but it’s everywehere for a reason. Use this formula: “I help [your ideal client] achieve [their goal] with [your solution].”

  • Keep it simple and direct—avoid jargon or trying to be clever.

Example for a Therapist:

Before: “Welcome to My Website!”

After: “Helping LGBTQ+ Clients Overcome Anxiety and Find Peace Through Personalized Therapy.”

Experiment:

Test different headlines by asking a friend or colleague if the message is clear. You can also poll your audience in your newsletter or on social media.

Step 2: Add a Clear Call-to-Action (CTA)

A strong CTA tells visitors exactly what to do next, guiding them toward becoming clients.

Without a clear CTA, visitors may feel unsure about their next steps—and leave without taking action. Uncertainty increases anxiety, and I know you want to take better care of your potential clients than that. Clear is kind.

Tell them what your business wants them to do, and why it’s a slam dunk choice.

How to Fix It This Weekend:

  • Add a prominent CTA to the top of your homepage.

  • Use action-oriented language like “Book,” “Get Started,” or “Download.”

Example for a Coach

Before: “Learn More About My Services.”

After: “Book Your Free Discovery Call Today!”

Step 3: Simplify Your Navigation

Your navigation menu should make it easy for visitors to find the most important information. Overwhelming or confusing menus can cause visitors to leave out of frustration, and we both know you don’t want that.

How to Fix It This Weekend:

  • Stick to 4–6 main menu options (e.g., Home, About, Services, Blog, Contact).

  • Use clear, action-oriented labels (e.g., “Work With Me” instead of “Offerings”).

Prioritize clarity over creativity in your navigation labels.

Step 4: Highlight Your Top Service

Your top service should stand out so visitors instantly know what you specialize in. When your primary service is front and center, potential clients can quickly determine if you’re the right fit for their needs. Remember, you have 5 seconds to clearly communicate how you can help the people who land on your home page.

How to Fix It This Weekend:

  • Add a featured section on your homepage for your top service.

  • Include a brief description, a compelling benefit, and a direct, clear CTA (Book a session).

Example for a Branding Coach

  • “Launch Your Standout Brand in Just 6 Weeks. Let’s Make It Happen!”

Step 5: Optimize for Mobile

Over half of website traffic comes from mobile devices. If your site doesn’t work well on mobile, I can guarantee you’re missing out on potential clients. A poor mobile experience can frustrate visitors, making them less likely to book or inquire. Search engines look for sites that are optimized for mobile, they won’t even show your site to people if it’s clunky on someone’s phone.

How to Fix It This Weekend:

  • Use a tool like Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test to check for issues.

  • Ensure buttons are easy to tap, text is readable, and images load quickly.

  • Make sure your colors have enough contrast to be accessible.
